Hi everyone! Welcome to installment numero uno of the B-L-O-G! WELCOME! Please wipe your feet of the snow and slush and come on it. Make yourselves comfy.
The past year has been an absolute whirlwind of things happening, musically. Last December I would have never thought that I would be releasing a solo record this March. At the time, I had just finished with helping Amanda get her CD out there, and was tinkering with the idea of a home studio, etc. The option of putting together a solo studio record came about very suddenly and unexpectedly (and it was welcomed with open arms I might add). Thanks to Rob Gable and Joe Brown, an evening of jamming turned into what would be this journey. Since January of last year…the band and I have worked very hard to put together an album of songs, some new…some old…some seem new but were old…some seem old but were new. I threw a nice new batch of tunes I had written at the band…we threw them in a blender of instruments and voices, and I’m so happy with what came out the other end.
Lots of blood, sweat, tears, coffee, and love went into this project. Let me tell you what I’m most proud of:
- Our grass roots approach; this entire record was recorded with 6 musicians. We used no sampling, no pitch correction, not even one digital instrument, we went as far as barely even using a click. Most of these songs were recorded in a live fashion.
- I did this with my friends. The same players you’ve seen over the years of playing are the same people you’ll hear on the record. We added one new member into our musical family, Leah Sproul (keys). And we are making her stick around as long as we can!!!! We love her!!!
If you are a WFPK listener (like me), you know that the record is getting some amazing airtime from our hometown station. They seem to love “Song From Me”. It’s gotten an amazing amount of spins so far. I love that they love it! Let’s hope they keep playing SFM and keep on moving further into the disc. Please support 91.9 and keep the best thing we have around here going, Louisville Public Media. www.wfpk.org
